AJC community volunteer opportunity this winter:
This year we are partnering to provide support to a community shelter, Out of the Cold (St. Matthew’s United Church, 1479 Barrington Street), from January-April.
How you can help:
- Volunteers are needed to make sandwiches and/or prepare a hot meal and deliver it to the shelter.
- Donations for us to purchase ingredients by clicking here.
- Shopping for ingredients.
Sandwiches can be made during the day or evening and delivered to the shelter. The Jewish House on Walnut Street has a kosher kitchen and can be used to prepare sandwiches.
To sign up for a volunteer session or to shop for ingredients please contact Edna LeVine: firstname.lastname@example.org.
More about the organization:
“Out of the Cold is a community-based, volunteer-run organization which provides shelter, support and a community drop-in space for people who are homeless or precariously housed in the HRM. Out of the Cold aims to be a low barrier and operates from a harm reduction philosophy; our guests are often unable to access other shelters and services in the city. We have been in operation over the winter months since 2008. Out of the Cold relies on the generous support of the community to provide dinner and bagged lunches every day for our guests, as well as staff the shelter and help with behind-the-scenes tasks.”
