Film Screening at UPEI – Nasser’s Republic: The Making of Modern Egypt

Event Description:
Gamal Abdel Nasser was the larger-than-life leader of Egypt between 1952 and 1970. He reshaped the Arab world, promoting Arab and African liberation, and bringing the world to the brink of nuclear war. The Arab Spring and its aftermath are his legacy. “Nasser’s Republic” (80 minutes) is the first film about him for a North American audience. Academy-Award-winning filmmaker Michal Goldman will be present for a discussion following the screening. Sponsored by the Department of History, UPEI, this event is free and open to the public. Voluntary donations can be made to the PEI Association for Newcomers Refugee Fund.
