Jewish Songwriters and the Evolution of American Music by Larry Gaum

Screening November 29th at 7:00pm at Shaar Shalom.  Presented by Shaar Shalom and the ATLANTIC JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL.

A documentary that traces the beginnings of Jewish musicians and songwriters from   Eastern Europe to America and beyond.  Did you ever wonder who wrote the Hit Songs for Al Jolson, Judy Garland, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Tom Jones, Louie Armstrong, Elvis Presley and many others? Did you ever wonder who wrote the most successful Broadway musicals during half of the 20th century that still fill theatres with thousands of people in the 21st century? The answer is simple:  Jewish songwriters. This documentary tells the story, and what a marvelous story it is. Whether you’re Jewish or not, you will enjoy the history of American music and the tremendous contribution Jewish songwriters made in its evolution.  The film is roughly 60 minutes and refreshments will be served.
